Miami Teams Dominate at Hike It & Spike It
400 Teams Take Part in an Amazing Memorial Day Weekend Event

The 13th annual Roswell Hike It and Spike It 4-on-4 GridIron tournament featured a record 400 teams shooting it out in 28 divisions. Three daily flights into Roswell from American Airlines and a $25,000 cash prize pool attracted a record 34 teams in the Show Me the Money bracket. With teams from California, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Florida, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Michigan and Ohio, there was a high level of competition and lots of surprises in the Show Me the Money bracket.

Underachievers
NoHo Ballers
The up-and-coming Southern California team went two-and-out, losing to the Stigers from Phoenix and One Time. The Ballers were one of the teams we were watching as a possible sleeper to make a deep run.

The Franchise
By far, the biggest disappointment of the tournament was The Franchise. This veteran team has made solid showings each of the past two years, and was a favorite to challenge for the cash in this year's tournament. While there is no shame in losing to a strong Blessed team, many watched in shock as they were knocked off by Einheriar in their second game. Guys, Farley's is off limits on Friday night!

Tough Draw
All TD's
All TD's QB Carlos Fontela is the type of player that can take over a tournament when he gets hot (see ZFOOTBALL 2007), but his powerhouse team wasn't quite firing on all cylinders during the tournament, and had no margin for error as they were matched up against perrenial power Team Skin in the winner's bracket quarter-finals. Having already beaten the Dallas Freaks, they were faced with having to beat them again in the loser's bracket. It's tough to beat a quality team twice in the same event, and All TD's was not able to double-dip the Freaks.

First Horizon
Always on the verge of breaking out, First Horizon beat a surprising FlagFootballX.com team in their second game, and as their reward, they were matched up against Texas juggernaut Blessed. Unable to solve the Blessed defense, they ran into a resurgent NX Level and went out in their next game.

Gamblers
Welcome to 4-on-4! The 8-on-8 national champions had a respectable showing in their first high-profile 4-on-4 event. They were unfortunate to draw a solid FlagFootballX.com team in their first game, and lost in a game that went down to the wire. After running through three tough loser's bracket games, they went down to a solid House team.

Stigers
With a high-powered offense, this team is dangerous in any tournament. Stigers also fell victim to a solid Blessed team, and had to come back and play FlagFootballX.com in their next game.

Affliction
Any time you run into the most dominant team in flag football, it's not a good draw. After beating a solid NX Level team, Affliction was matched up against eventual champion M.O.B. They then ran into FlagFootballX.com, who ended their run.

Nice Run
NX Level
Their first loss to Affliction will have these guys kicking themselves until next year's event, but NX Level recovered and rattled off wins against One Time, former tournament champions Da Bullies, and First Horizon before falling to the Dallas Rage.

Dallas Rage
After getting through their first two games, the Rage ran into Goose Crew. After coming up short, they ran off wins against a solid Stay Ready team and a resurgent NX Level squad before facing -- you guessed it -- Goose Crew in the loser's bracket semi-finals.

Skin Industrites
Do these guys age? Year after year, they make deep runs into most every major tournament they enter. They were unable to solve either eventual finalist, losing to M.O.B. in the winner's bracket final, and Goose Crew in the loser's bracket final to finish in third place.

FlagFootballX.com
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the tournament, FlagFootballX.com wound up in the loser's bracket early after losing to a solid First Horizon team. This team, which was put together just days before the tournament, was able to rattle off wins against Einheriar, Stigers, and Affliction before doing the Texas two-step and sinking the Freaks and Blessed. They fell to Goose Crew in a close game to finish the tournament in 4th place.

Class of the Tournament
Goose Crew
A team full of flag football veterans marched through a difficult path before meeting league rival M.O.B. in the finals. Faced with the difficult task of beating M.O.B. twice to claim the title, Goose Crew put up a valiant fight, winning the first match-up decisively before running out of gas in the second game.

M.O.B
What more can you say about this team? They continue to win every major tournament they play in, earning yet another big victory in Roswell. They are a cut above every other team in the game.
